Another season, another set of trend forecasts. As we turn the page on summer, it’s the perfect time to look at trending interior styles this fall, and what’s likely to influence shoppers in coming months. Take a look at these seasonal outlooks for home décor, as well as some top trends spotted on fall fashion runways, which often inspire interior design.

Home Décor:

Vintage
Whether actual antiques or new items that channel a vintage vibe, there’s a movement toward rustic and original. “We’re seeing shoppers enter their ‘heirloom er’ this fall, a trend that represents different ways to bring retro and inherently unique items to homes and wardrobes,” says Etsy trend expert Dayna Isom Johnson. New items for the home that fit the bill could be weathered, faded, crocheted or incorporate elements of Americana.

Texture
Tactility has been on the style radar for a little while now, but it’s especially appropriate to lean into texture in the fall and winter months. Think soft and cozy blankets and throws, rough and crinkly leaves and gourds, and even textured wallpaper and wall treatments.

Pops of Color
Most of us tend to think of muted earth tones when we think of fall decor. But bright, bold pops of color are expected to liven things up this year. “Orange, turquoise, greens, blues and yellows will be out there,” Suzan Wemlinger of Suzan J. Designs told Better Homes and Gardens.

Japanese Influences
An interesting twist in trending interior styles? Growing interest in Japanese style and décor. Pinterest reports that searches for “zen house” are up 405% over last year and “Japanese vintage art” searches are up 270%.

Fashion:

Bohemian Style
Fashionistas are all talking about the return of bohemian style or what’s being called boho chic. What does it mean exactly? Think of the free-spirited flare of the 1970s, complete with long flowing dresses, ruffled blouses, fringed jackets, wide pantlegs and chiffon scarves. But as Emily Cronin of Elle points out: “More than any specific components, boho style is about a feeling” that is effortless, powerful and feminine.

Western Wear
This isn’t its first rodeo, but Western-inspired wear showed up all over fashion runways this fall. As Town & Country magazine reported: “For the upcoming season, Ralph Lauren focused on its heritage of western wear, and evoked a spirit that was ranch-ready through the incorporation of fun fringe and supple suede, while Pharrell Williams took the French brand, Louis Vuitton, on a very American journey for his latest menswear collection.” Leather in a variety of different colors looks to be extremely popular as well.

Big and Fluffy
Many designers took texture up a notch on fall runways. “Feathers, fur and fluff” is what Cosmopolitan labeled the trend. The biggest and fluffiest items of them all may have been coats and capes, but feathers and fur also showed up on dresses and separates.

Nature-Inspired
Everyone seems to love getting outdoors these days. Or at least thinking about it. Two big nature-inspired themes in fall fashion include leopard prints and camouflage patterns. Searches for “leopard print jeans” are up 2990% (yes, you read that right) and “camouflage outfit” searches are up 2295%, according to Pinterest.
